Robin Partch has been making good wine at Northern Vineyards since 1989. He is one of the original members of the Minnesota Winegrowers Cooperative. Robin is an integral part of the Minnesota wine industry. Robin is also a founding member of both the Minnesota Grape Growers Association and the Minnesota Farm Winery Association. He has won more than 100 international awards for his good wines and is a recognized leader in the industry.
Robin Partch was a sixth grade teacher in Redwood Falls when he got his passion for making wine from spending time in the Burgundy region of France. “[It] got me used to the idea of wine as part of daily life,” he says, “but as a teacher, I couldn’t afford to buy it, so I had to make it!” He made a rose from wild grapes in 1977 that won a Blue Ribbon at the state fair and never looked back.
Robin’s passion and drive for making wine is apparent in the complexity of his good wines. “I’m interested in complexity. I would rather take a sip of wine and react to the citrus-like character of it when it first hits my mouth, and then the change to apricot or pear once it’s warmed-up in my mouth and I start getting the fumes in my nose. Then, after I swallow it, there’s a third or fourth flavor. That’s complexity—I really admire that.”
