Now featuring through March 2013 : :Tim Nyberg.

The current art show at Northern Vineyards Winery is by new Stillwater resident, Tim Nyberg. Tim stumbled upon us while he was shopping at the River Market Coop next door (Or, we should say, stumbled OUT after an enjoyable tasting session?). At any rate, Tim told us he had a lot of wine-related paintings that he’d like to share with our patrons. We welcomed him to show during February and March. It’s a fun show with a lot of variety in the 15 paintings that will be hanging. We will also have Tim’s greeting cards and prints available in the store during the show. You can meet Tim at the Sunday, February 24th artist’s reception (from 6p to 8p).

ABOUT THE ARTIST

For over thirty years, Stillwater, Minnesota artist Tim Nyberg has been an illustrator and graphic designer for everyone from Fortune 500 companies to the corner retailer, from McDonald’s to small cafes, for national magazines, book covers, web sites, and his own humor books – most notably The Duct Tape Books.

During his eight-year relocation from the Twin Cities to Door County, Wisconsin, Tim returned to his first love, creating his own non-commissioned fine art (Tim prefers to call it “Fun Art”). In his paintings, you can easily see his commercial art sensibilities. Like his illustrative work, there is a thread of humor to everything Tim paints. Even his non-objective pieces are playful and fresh. Tim’s quick to admit that he enjoys exploring and blurring the line between the two disciplines – especially without direction from an art director or client. He explains, “My overriding objective in my work is to visually entertain the viewer- to bring a smile, a chuckle or a brief moment of altered perception.”

About the diversity in Tim’s painting styles:

“I’m constantly exploring – not afraid to try new things – not afraid to fail. Really, what’s the worst that can happen? I’ve wasted a little paint. I just paint over it and the underlying “failed experiment” adds to the richness of the new image. I find that exploring and not being tied to one particular genre is quite valuable in the evolution of my work. The non-objective pieces painted during live music performances inform my tighter objective pieces and vice versa. Will I ever arrive at one particular style? I hope not… that would take all of the fun out of it. I love being surprised by spontaneity.”

Tim relates to this quote: “God is really only another artist. He invented the giraffe, the elephant and the cat. He has no real style, He just goes on trying other things.” – Pablo Picasso
